Contrary to popular belief, self-love should be the most important aspect of one’s life. But society, as we know it, makes us drown in the belief that pleasing those around us is the key to happiness. Which, however, isn’t completely true.

The majority of us do find joy in the joy of others, but in doing so we often ignore the one thing we never should, ‘Ourselves’. We aren’t talking about bringing about a 180-degree shift in your personality though, but rather take a few simple steps to care for your own self as well as watching out for the world as well.

So here are 9 simple steps you can take to bring about a small degree of happiness in your own life.

1. Exercise- Even if it’s a little bit

One of the best things you can do for yourself is giving your body the workout it needs. No, we’re not suggesting that you become a fitness freak and spend hours in the gym, believe me, nobody likes that. Instead, go for a short run, do some yoga in your free time, but do something for yourself!

Just keep that blood pumping and naturally, you’ll feel a lot better.


2. Smile more- Even if its fake

Believe it or not, you can actually trick yourself into believing that you’re doing well, and that’s done by simply smiling. Does it take effort? Yes. Because it isn’t easy to smile in unlikely situations. But do practice it as much as you can because smiling on its own can make things better in the long run, even if its fake.


3. Make changes to your routine

Most of us don’t like jolting up our fixed routines, but that’s where we’re wrong. Change on its own can be exhilarating, even if it’s in the smallest of things. Discover a new route, try new food but shake things up and make your life more interesting!
