“Life is the art of drawing without an eraser.”
– John W. Gardner
We are usually told to keep our head down and our nose to the grindstone. That is what a majority of us were taught to believe about work. But is it really the best strategy? Most people who pay heed to such advice, usually end up being disappointed and they achieve nothing substantial in life. Such people learn the lesson very late in their lives that there’s more to life than just keeping busy.
Here are some of the lessons that people usually learn too late in life:
1. Do not sleepwalk through life.
Most people have the habit of keeping the work to do at a later time. They will say, everything is going fine, I will do this later, I have enough and more time on hand etc. Means; they find excuses or take everything as easy. This is not correct. So stop hitting that snooze button.
“Don’t sleepwalk through life, and don’t say it’s all going to be great”
– Warren Buffett
2. Live life without fear.
Be fearless. Always. No matter what the life throws at you don’t be afraid to face it. Also, many people are facing the problem of the fear of failures. Even though they are talented, the fear of failure stops them to move forward and achieve success.
They do not realize that failure is a part of life. If you look at the success stories of great people, you can find they have failed several times, but they ignored those failures and moved forward and achieved success in life.
“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”
– Nelson Mandela
3. Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good.
People realize too late in life that life isn’t fair at all, it’s true but it’s alright. If one dwells on this fact and just keeps complaining about it that one won’t achieve anything.
4. Stop complaining.
If you keep complaining about the difficulties in your life and not do anything about them, you will not be able to make it big. So just stop complaining and do your thing.
5. Never stop learning.
Every day, learn at least one new thing. Never feel satiated. Never stop learning. Always be curious and you will succeed in life.
“I’ve no special talent , I am only passionately curious.”
– Albert Einstein
6. Make peace with your past so it won’t screw up the present.
You can’t change your past but you can learn from it. So don’t dwell in past. Embrace it and learn from it so you don’t screw up the present.
“Learn from the past and let it go. Live in today.”
– Louise Hey
7. Know your destination.
Know your passions and put in the hard work. Know your destination and do everything in your power to reach there.
8. Sacrificing your health for success or wealth isn’t worth it.
Always prioritize yourself and especially your health above anything else. For there is nothing more valuable than health. No success or wealth worth more than your health. Keep good care of yourself. Eat clean and healthy and must exercise regularly. Unfortunately, most people don’t realize it until it’s too late.
9. Don’t compare your life to others.
Never compare yourself with others. As everyone has different motivations, ambitions, journeys and obstacles in their lives. Don’t get in the useless comparisons, just keep working towards your goals.
“Don’t compare yourself with other people; compare yourself with who you were yesterday.”
– Jordan Peterson
10. Whatever doesn’t kill you really does make you stronger.
Whatever life throws at you face it with a big heart as whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Just don’t lose faith in yourself ever. And keep your dreams alive.
11. Worrying doesn’t achieve anything.
Worrying doesn’t solve the problems but finding a solution to your problems does solve them eventually. So never waste your energy worrying.
“Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength.”
– Corrie ten Boom
12. Enjoy life to the fullest.
Most people don’t realize that they have to live in the moment and enjoy life. As you never know when it will end. Strive to achieve your goals but at the same time let yourself free and just enjoy life.
“Be happy for this moment, this moment is your life.”
– Omar Khayyam
