Furthermore, the brilliant young girl intends to become a cosmologist. In light of her recent accomplishments, we’re not surprised.

Who is Nidhi Mayurika?

A young girl from Bangalore Nidhi has won the NASA space settlement competition in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Her thrice victory has thrust her into the spotlight. With her brilliant innovations, Mayurika might become India’s youngest cosmologist.

Nidhi Mayurika School

Mayurika is an 8th-grade student at the Narayana Olympiad School located in Bangalore in southern India.

In a recent interview with Edex, Live Nidhi talked about her love for science. Her active participation in every school science competition from the 5th grade onwards certainly helped nourish her talent. Friends, family, teachers everyone knew about Nidhi and her space models. Consequently, it was understandable that her principal registered her for the NASA Ames Space Settlement Competition.

Since her success in the NASA projects Mayurika has joined online courses on science and space at renowned international universities. These include the University of Edinburgh, the Australian National University and Boston University.

Nidhi Mayurika Motivation

Mayurika’s motivations are two-fold. Firstly, she saw the competition as an opportunity to showcase her talents in science and her ideas regarding space. Secondly, she wanted to make her country proud. Many scientific theories like the theory of Parmanu and the working of the solar systems originated in India.

Nidhi Mayurika NASA

She was desperate to prove herself so Nidhi began by reading up on the contest guidelines. She needed to design a virtual space colony for settlers in a spacecraft.

Almost uniquely suited to the task Nidhi began immediately. With her enthusiasm and dedication for the task, she started building her spacestation – Saikatam.

Why Saikatam?

Nidhi named her space station Saikatam which means a home away from home.

Nidhi Mayurika Project 2016

The settlement is a three-story design located at 385,000 km from the Earth. Additionally, the station is specifically designed to facilitate the survival and evolution of the human species.

Moreover, the space settlement is fully self-sustaining complete with food sources, water, artificial gravity and a circulating oxygen system. It is a complete simulation of a viable space colony.
