Hollywood has a massive presence not just in America but all over the world. And not just in the business of entertainment. This is because Hollywood has, over many decades, consistently produced stars, icons and living legends. Numerous actors, actresses and producers have gone on to join politics, start nonprofits and work with the United Nations.
For example, Emma Watson works as a UN Women Goodwill ambassador promoting women’s rights and female education in countries like Bangladesh and Zambia. Ronald Reagan was an actor who used his fame to become President of the world’s biggest superpower. More recently, Terminator star Arnold Schwarzenegger turned his film career into a political career when he became governor of California.
In fact, the current US President Donald Trump started out as a reality television star. And has consistently used his flair for the dramatic and the American love of spectacle to mark his place in the American political landscape. So it should come as no surprise to hear that Angelina Jolie – one of the biggest actresses of her time – and a vocal civil rights leader is thinking of running for President.
Recent Updates on Angelina Jolie
Most people were surprised when the power couple of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt split up in 2018. In the aftermath however people are expecting a significant increase in her political activity. Angelina Jolie has an international presence as a humanitarian. And has always been extremely vocal regarding issues like immigration, sexual violence, women’s rights and children’s education.
Angelina Jolie hints at running for Presidency
Due to her past accomplishments and accolades many people think Angelina Jolie could become a very successful political leader. So when BBC host Justin Webb asked her if she had ever thought about joining the race for Presidency fans the world over eagerly awaited her response. And she did not disappoint.
Jolie humbly exclaimed that her mission in life was simply to go wherever she was needed. Additionally, though she was unsure of her capability for politics she stated she would not dismiss the possibility. Going on to elaborate that her career as an actress meant she had no skeletons left. And was pretty thick skinned when facing public opposition. All essential qualities for a Presidential candidate.
However, Angelina Jolie highlighted that she was content in her current position at the UN that allowed her access to foreign governments as a humanitarian. So her future political career though a possibility is not in her immediate plans. The actress graciously admitted that though she is a proud patriot who wants to serve her country she is foremost an internationalist and humanitarian.
Angelina Jolie on social media
Another issue Angelina Jolie has vocally spoken on is that of social media. The actress has multiple biological and adopted children. And she has spoken openly of her experiences as a mother that have made her concerned about the exposure of minors to uncensored content on social media. Jolie claimed that her generations don’t understand half of what children today are doing online making supervision near impossible. This opens the door to harmful negative influences that parents are unable to protect their children from.
In conclusion, Angelina Jolie has made no immediate declarations to run for President. She has not set a date, announced a plan or even set foot in the arena of politics. But, she has expressed an openness towards an idea that Jolie herself claims would have sounded ludicrous to her a decade ago. So, Lara Croft for President of the United States? Why not!
We have no doubt that the woman who selflessly donates so much of her time and money to charity would serve her country well. In these uncertain political times, the world would be so lucky to have a humanitarian lead a global superpower.
