Let’s face it, bullies exist and will continue to exist as long as we do not teach them to be better from a young age. When one hears the word bullying, they automatically picture one big kid picking on a smaller one in the playground. Bullying isn’t only limited to that occurrence.

In fact, that’s just one minor part of overall bullying. Majority of the times, people unknowingly bully other people’s appearance as well. And that folks, is as low as one can go. Mocking someone’s physical characteristics leaves a huge dent in their self-esteem, something they may never recover from. Wounds do heal, but scars remain for a very very long time.

This kind of behavior on the inflictor’s behalf is highly discouraged, but in rare instances, it does the opposite. You see, picking on someone is supposed to kill their self-confidence, but there are those who actually gain confidence from that instance. They try to get rid of the nagging and actually put in the effort to change their lives.

Once that change is complete, a whole new lifestyle is formed, leaving the victim better than they’ve ever been. But everyone needs to start somewhere. The internet is full of inspirational stories about people who made a significant change in their lives, documented it and today act as physical motivation for others who wish to do the same. Mairi Scobie is one of those people.

Flashback two years and Mairi was an overweight girl/victim who constantly lived among people who looked down on her because of her appearance. On a day to day basis, she would retreat to her own self and drown herself in snacks as much as she possibly could.

But her journey isn’t your average weight loss story. In merely two years time, Mairi dropped from size 20 to  12st 6lbs. That’s dropping 4 dress sizes down. Now that is what we call progress.

But if you’re hoping that we tell you she had to overly commit herself and motivate herself for months to join the gym then we’d be lying. Mairi randomly joined the gym, specifically because she felt restless and had left school. But in two weeks time, she was hooked to the machines and started enjoying it for herself.
