Bill Gates is that one person who would be forever known for having the amount of wealth which almost everyone among us can only imagine. His current worth as of 2018 is $95 Billion and if he had not chosen to give back more to the world with his donations, he would have had more than our estimate to his name.

Bill Gates has served the world in many roles. From being the principal founder of Microsoft, investor, author, philanthropist and humanitarian, together he has successfully brought a major difference with his life in the world. But with all the wealth along with it, what would really bother the richest man on Earth?

This question has been simplified in a calculation by Neil Degrasse Tyson, an American astrophysicist, author, and science communicator, where he has explained Bill Gates wealth by stating an amount, which according to his estimate, Bill would not bother about if he left that on road or lost it as personal spending.

If you’re walking down the street and a penny dropped from your pocket by chance, would you really make the effort to find it or does it really matter to you? Probably not. Even Tyson won’t pick it up but if we see a quarter, most of us would definitely not leave it there. The reason behind it is the fact that a quarter is a useful amount of money. Considering the overall value of a quarter for us, when collected together or in terms of buying anything which can help us a great deal in our daily lives, we would not be careless about it.

Tyson uses himself finding a penny as an example: “Since I have a stable job and a car, the penny — I’m not bending down to pick up the penny,”

“Same with a nickel. [A] dime? If I’m not in a hurry, I’m picking up the dime; in a hurry, I’m walking past.

“A quarter I’m picking up every time.”

Placing Bill Gates in a similar situation, Tyson has its own calculations to support that how much is actually useful for Bill Gates and what can he really ignore if left on the street. Of course, if Bill ever saw a quarter on the street, he would definitely not pick it up (maybe out of courtesy for someone else, but in reality, he won’t) So, what basically is the useful quarter amount for Bill Gates according to his wealth?

It turns out that in his case, the amount of money for which he would make the effort to bend down or look for it in the street for a while if he has mistakenly dropped it is more than $45,000. Losing such an amount of money is impossible but if only we suppose, this can be served as a parameter of measuring his wealth as it equals to how we would treat a quarter according to our income. Are you really surprised? So are we!

Although with such massive net worth and bank balance, Bill Gates is extremely wise about spending his money. The world might think that he owns the best luxury items from around the world, private jets or properties, but in reality that only makes up a fraction of his total fortune. He is more focused to change the world for better with his money and this is the reason why he still spends most of his income on welfare programs and is also one of the leading investors in the technology world.
