Junko Iizuka* was 16 years old when was forced to have a mystery operation at a clinic in north-east of Japan. She later discovered that the operation was meant to prevent her from having children ever in her life.
According to her she was under anaesthesia and didn’t remember anything about the operation. She learned about the shocking truth when she overheard her parents and realized that she was one of the 16,500 people who became the victims of Eugenic Protection Law.
Under the law, people were forced to undergo sterilization aimed at preventing the birth of “inferior” children.
The operation carried out in 1963 has brought drastic effects on her health as she suffers from persistent stomach pains and a substantial psychological burden on her mind even after fifty-five years. Being suspected of having a mental disability was the vile reason behind the operation. She lost all hope when she found out that the operation was irreversible. “They stole my life away”, she said.
